Hand-painted Champagne Bottle

Champagne is already a star performer in the gift world, but why not give it a bit of extra pizzazz by adding some hand-painted details? This DIY project is perfect for anyone who loves a glass of bubbly and appreciates a personalized touch. With just a few supplies and a bit of creativity, you can turn a classic gift into something truly memorable.

When two of my closest friends got engaged, I knew I wanted to commemorate their big moment with something uniquely personal. Given the bride-to-be’s love for champagne, I went with a bottle of Veuve Clicquot. I didn’t want to drown out the brand’s iconic orange label, so I started by taping off the label and any other areas I wanted to keep paint-free.

I primed the bottle with a couple of coats of Liquitex Basics acrylic paint in Titanium White. In retrospect, leaving the bottle unprimed and painting the flowers directly onto the dark green base might have produced a much moodier, richer finish – so treat this step as optional depending on the overall effect you’re trying to create.

Once the bottle was primed, I used a pencil to sketch out their initials in a simple monogram on the front. I didn’t trust myself to wield such a thin paint brush, so instead opted to gild the letters using a paint pen. (Equally effective, but you’ll need several coats.)

And then came the fun part: painting! I have virtually no experience with acrylic paints, so I started by playing around with colors and brush strokes on a separate piece of paper before committing to the bottle. Don’t stress over perfection here; slightly uneven edges produces florals that feel lush and a little bit wild.

Since their wedding is in the fall, I chose a palette of rich, jewel tones. And as devoted parents to two adorable Pekinese, I couldn’t resist including portraits of their furry babies. They look quite distinguished on the bottle, don’t they?

If you’re looking to add a personal touch to your next celebration, this DIY project might be just what you need. It’s a charming and thoughtful way to make any occasion feel extra special, and it’s sure to be a hit with anyone who loves a custom touch. I love that the end result is unique and fun, and produces a truly special keepsake (that’s just as lovely even after the bottle is empty!)
